Greg Ackerman and the team at 365 Things Austin gave an in-depth live review of Pennyfest 2017, which was held last weekend at Empire Control Room & Garage in Austin. Boasting a stacked lineup of 13 local bands, it was the annual birthday for local PR firm Penny Loafer PR.
"The highlight of the evening was an outstanding set by Darkbird. Fronted by relentless vocalist Kelly Barnes, this Austin rock outfit puts on a incredibly entertaining show. Barnes dressed in a black jumpsuit and boots with ringlets of curly auburn hair framing her face, cavorted about the stage belting out lyrics as her band chugged along behind her. There simply are not many bands with a lead singer as animated as Barnes on stage. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Even our photographer was seen grinning ear-to-ear while watching the performance". Austin music blog Track Rambler had some positive words to say about local rock band Meanswell and their two new singles ahead of their music video premiere tonight at the Austin Music Video Festival.
"The song is brilliantly produced with a classic instrumental arrangement combined with authentic vocals. Subtly sounding like a song you’d hear at a 60’s school dance, with a traditional, slow tempo and romantic sound underneath, it’s rocked and roughed up with blasts of duel electric guitars and gruff authentic vocals" Read the full review right HERE! Crescent City Radio in New Orleans have added Meanswell's self titled single and Scott Collins' track "The Upside" to airplay rotation.
